Yoruba-language podcast passes a million downloads
"Ẹ kú àbọ̀" opens every episode of the show that is teaching a new generation the language of their grandparents.
A podcast that teaches everyday Yoruba through stories and jokes has passed one million downloads in its first year.
Each episode opens with "Ẹ kú àbọ̀" (welcome) and follows two cousins, one fluent and one learning, through a day in the city.
Listeners say they use the show to speak with grandparents and to teach their children. Many are abroad.
The hosts post a short word list with each episode, with tones marked, so learners can say words like ọjà (market) and ẹ̀kọ́ (lesson) correctly.
A second series, covering proverbs, starts next month.
