Community wind project powers a coastal school
Two small turbines now light classrooms and charge laptops for 700 pupils.
Two small wind turbines on the edge of a coastal town now supply all the power for a secondary school of 700 pupils.
The project was paid for by parents, a local bank and a grant. Parents also helped dig the foundations and run the cables.
Teachers say lessons no longer stop when the grid fails. A computer room that sat unused now runs every afternoon.
Spare power charges phones for the market next door, which brings in a small income to maintain the turbines.
The organisers are sharing their plans with three other schools along the coast.
